As you are aware, the ANMF recently surveyed nurses and midwives working in the public sector in relation to a short stop gap agreement to protect your right to back pay back from December 2018. Almost 80% of those responding to the survey, voted yes. There are some further steps before backpay will be seen in your accounts though – the new agreement remains to be registered. Some time after this has happened, back payment will be calculated. Once calculated, the back pay will be directly deposited into bank accounts.
We would like to reinforce that this is not by any means the end of the negotiation process in our fight to achieve fair pay and safe working conditions. The ANMF have been, and will continue to, meet with Tasmanian State Government representatives to further negotiations toward an agreement that would see nurses and midwives paid a salary that is competitive with interstate colleagues.
In light of the agreement reached, all industrial action by nurses and midwives will cease. Other public sector union members may continue to participate in industrial action. It may be that nurses and midwives will need to reinstate industrial action again as we work toward a new agreement, but we hope that this matter will finally be resolved without the need to take such action.
